Greek director Sofia Exarchou, known for her subtle portrayal of social tensions, presents in Animal the story of a young woman working as an entertainer at a tourist resort. The film highlights a sharp contrast between the hedonistic world of holiday pleasure and the everyday reality of those forced to serve the tourism industry.
The camera closely follows the protagonist, revealing her loneliness, exhaustion, and longing for authenticity in a world filled with superficial emotions. Animal becomes a critique of contemporary consumer culture, in which people are often reduced to mere tools. At the same time, the film remains an intimate drama about the search for identity and one’s place in the world. Exarchou shows how dreams of freedom collide with the realities of work, creating a moving portrait of an individual.
After the screening, we invite you to a discussion with the director.
