EKO-OKO Center for Ecological Education

A Meeting with Ewa Smuk Stratenwerth

In the early 1990s, the Ochota Cultural Center established the EKO-OKO Center for Ecological Education. Founded by Ewa Smuk, Tanna Jakubowicz, Jarek Gradowski, and Przemek Radwański, this space became a hub for ecological thought.

At EKO-OKO, Ewa Smuk organized the first organic food fairs, preceded by inspiring lectures—among them by Prof. Mieczysław Górny—and healthy cooking courses, with a special focus on vegetarian and macrobiotic cuisine. People from all over Warsaw came to buy products from local producers. Today, we enthusiastically return to these ecological roots. Join us for a conversation with Ewa, where we will explore the beginnings of EKO-OKO.

Ewa Smuk Stratenwerth – ecologist, social activist, and educator. Founder of the EKO-OKO Center for Ecological Education at the Ochota Cultural Center. Initiator of the “Rodzić po ludzku” campaign.
