The Sandomierz Town Hall – a historic red-brick building with a light-colored clock tower in the market square, shown on a sunny day with people walking around.

Visiting Father Mateusz

Open Lectures at OKO

The main setting of the popular Polish TV series Father Mateusz is the town of Sandomierz, where most outdoor scenes are filmed, often against the backdrop of its historic architecture. The popularity of the series has led to a significant increase in tourism to the city.

Beyond its monuments, Sandomierz is also famous for numerous archaeological discoveries, such as medieval chess pieces. The areas of today’s city were already inhabited in the Neolithic period. During the meeting with archaeologist Joanna Borowska, we will follow the traces of people who lived in and around present-day Sandomierz in the past. We will visit locations known from the TV series, as well as lesser-known places. We will also learn the stories behind fascinating artefacts preserved in Sandomierz museums.
